When a former student of fifth grade teacher Cathy Smith painted a Syracuse University themed rock and left it on her doorstep over the summer, little did he know how much joy it would bring to her.

Smith decided to spread the love by having her students initiate a Positivity Project where they painted rocks with positive messages and colorful designs to bring a little cheer to the beginning of the 2017-18 school year.

Her students then hid their rocks throughout school grounds as they awaited to hear their inspiring messages heard throughout the halls.

The project has received praise from other DMK teachers, some of which Smith said planned to continue the Positivity Project throughout the school year.
