While members of the Lanigan “family” may be located in different locations in the District this year, the Lanigan Elementary Block Party provided an excellent opportunity for the “family” to re-connect. The Block Party has proven to be a much-anticipated reunion of sorts where parents, teachers and the Lanigan community come together for hot dogs, entertainment and most of all connections with each other. This year it provided an even greater service to the Lanigan fourth and fifth grade community which is located in Volney and Granby schools while the building’s intermediate wing renovation is completed.

Hot dogs, chips and drinks, courtesy of the Parents at Lanigan School (PALS) group were available and over 300 hot dogs were consumed by the hundreds of people attending the annual event. Entertainment and informational booths were set up along the courtyard sidewalks and a temporary library was available for students to check out books while they attended the picnic.

Several students from SUNY Oswego were also on hand to assist with the event. Lanigan is a professional development school and students from the college help with many of the activities and the events to provide an opportunity for the college students to familiarize themselves with the school and its teachers. Many of the students will student teach at Lanigan or Granby Elementary School and for Lanigan Principal Dan Johnson, this provides a unique opportunity to welcome those future teachers.
