Local Businesses Support Food Pantries

OSWEGO, NY – Lois Luber, resource development director with the United Way of Greater Oswego County, announced that Wal-Mart and Price Chopper stores in Oswego have teamed with the United Way to help support local food pantries.

As part of the United Way’s Stone Soup Luncheon the Oswego Wal-Mart and Price Chopper will be accepting donations of food items now through Nov. 20 that will be distributed to the Human Concerns Center and the Salvation Army in Oswego.

Scheduled for Nov. 18, the United Way’s Stone Soup Luncheon provides community members with the opportunity to come together to share a delicious meal while helping those less fortunate.

For a $5 donation attendees will enjoy a tasty lunch featuring delicious homemade Minestrone soup from Canale’s Restaurant, Italian Wedding Soup from Vona’s Restaurant, and Butternut Squash soup from the American Foundry; salad courtesy of C’s Farms, fresh baked rolls from Bosco & Geers; desserts from Cakes Galore and SUNY Oswego Auxiliary Services; and fresh brewed hot coffee, from Tim Horton’s.

Attendees are also asked to please bring a food item for donation to a local food pantry.

All proceeds from the event will be given to food pantries throughout Oswego County to help them meet the increased demand for food subsidy this holiday season and beyond.

The luncheon will be held at St. Joseph’s Parish Center, West First Street, starting at 11:30 a.m.
