OSWEGO, NY – On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., multiple agencies will be on hand offering various services to the public at the Oswego Lowe’s located at 445 State Route 104 as part of Lowe’s Safety Saturday event.
The Oswego City Police Department and the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department will be assisting with child seat installations and children’s fingerprinting.
The two agencies along with the Oswego City Fire Department will also be participating in the
U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s prescription drug “Take-Back†campaign, where they will be collecting potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction.
The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
The Oswego City Police Department will also have gun locks available as part of the Project ChildSafe initiative.
Additionally, various other local agencies will be on hand promoting safety and supplying information regarding their role in an emergency situation.
