Minetto Sixth Graders Take Next Education Step

MINETTO, NY – Olivia Flint and Katrina Sharkey were recipients of the Minetto Elementary School “Principal’s American Citizenship Award.”

Dean Goewey presented the honors to the two sixth graders at the year end ceremony.

Goewey noted, “This award is sponsored by the National association of Elementary School Principals. It recognizes America’s youth for making a positive contribution to the school and community.”

The Minetto Elementary School sixth graders are prepared to commence the next step of their education at the Oswego Middle School. This year’s Triple ‘C’ recipients were Alex Suits and Paige Kieper while the recipients of the “Principal’s American Citizenship Award” were Olivia Flint and Katrina Sharkey. They were presented their awards by Principal Dean Goewey (right). Members of the Oswego High School “Class of 2010” provided the future seventh graders with advice and they are (in back) Brian Semione, Kristen Bartholomew and Matthew Castiglia.

Another notable award presented by Goewey was the “New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo Triple ‘C’ Award” recognizing “character, courage and commitment.”

This year’s recipients were Alec Suits and Paige Kieper.

Goewey also proudly presented a pair of President’s Awards for Educational Excellence and Educational Achievement.

The Educational Excellence Award goes to students who have an overall average for two years of 90% or have scored among the best in the New York State English Language Arts and Math tests.

Students earning this award included Brynn Adner, Kayla Becksted, Olivia Flint, Nicholas Hurlbutt, Evan James, Paige Kieper, Emily Lloyd, Kyra O’Gorman, Samantha O’Neil, Justin Semione, Katrina Sharkey, Kelci Somers, Emily Strzelinski and Alec Suits.

The Educational Achievement Award is given for outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development.

This year’s recipients included Destiny Bivens, Miranda Clary, Eric Clyne, Trisha Ditton, Teyler Galletta, James Gilbert, Michele Lavery, Noah Lee, Sydnie LeRoy, Emma Myers, Lauren Sharkey, Ethan Snyder and Sarah St. John.

Prior to the presentation of the sixth grade certificates, the students heard from three members of the Oswego High School “Class of 2010” as Brian Semione, Matthew Castiglia and Kristen Bartholomew all encouraged the students to remain focused, participate in the variety of options that will be available, be an individual and have fun while learning.

Preparing to commence seventh grade from Mrs. Anderson’s class are Brynn Adner, Eric Clyne, Trisha Ditton, Alexis Elmer, Claudia Engle, Teyler Galletta, Laura Godden, Nicholas Hurlbutt, Evan James, Paige Kieper, Dylan Merwin, George Myers, Justin Pospesel, Katrina Sharkey, Lauren Sharkey, Sarah St. John, Emily Strzelinski, Kyle Topley and Cole Ylitalo.

From Mrs. Freebern and Mrs. Campbell’s sixth grade class were Kayla Becksted, Alexander Burns, Joshua Crary, Francis Dahar, Dacoda Fadden, Olivia Flint, Jacob Johnson, Noah Lee, Austin Loomis, Mollie McSweeney, Alex Monahan, Johnathon Monteith, Julio Negron, Kyra O’Gorman, Taeler Shortt, Amber Simmons, Ethan Snyder, Kelci Somers, Abigail Thompson and Brianna Yablonski.

The graduates in Mrs. Wadsworth’s class were Lucas Abbott, Destiny Bivens, Miranda Clary, Shawn Clary, Kane Davis, Amber Dawley, Jacob Dumas, Dakota Ellis, Dillon Gibson, James Gilbert, Rory Henrie, Michele Lavery, Sydnie LeRoy, Emily Lloyd, Isaiah Love, Emma Myers, Samantha O’Neil, Brandon Pepper, Justin Semione, Alec Suits and Adriana Zagame.

  1. I have to be the proudest uncle in the area. Alec is my nephew an I have never been more proud of him. He is going to be even better in the middle school way to go Alec !!!!!!!!!

  2. Nice, but whoever wrote this article should have listed the names of the recipients; particularly the student(s) who received the highest honors…President’s Award for Educational Excellence, etc.
