FULTON – G. Ray Bodley students were awarded scholarships totaling more than $1.1 million during the high school’s annual Academic Awards Evening.

While the monetary awards were given or promised based on completion of eligibility criteria to juniors and seniors, students who are freshmen and sophomores also received recognition for their academic achievement and outstanding character.
The celebratory night opened with students Madison Lang, Jasmine James, Anna-Carole Samson and Leah O’Hanlon playing string instruments, followed by the National Anthem sung by the GRB Concert Choir.
Honorees and their guests filled the GRB auditorium as Principal Donna Parkhurst offered students praise and congratulatory wishes on their achievements.
She commended them as stellar examples of good school and community citizens.
Several presenters spoke about each award recipients’ character, skill sets and charming personalities before the students were handed a certificate of recognition, a special book or a scholarship check.

Senior Trey LaRock received the award with the highest monetary value at $180,000, as he received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Scholarships ranged from $25 to tens of thousands of dollars for up to four years at certain universities.
Students in various grade levels were honored for academic achievement, effort, excellence, effort and/or improvement in English, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, art, family and consumer science, business, languages other than English, health and physical education.
The top 25 students of each class were also honored.
