During Child Abuse Prevention Month, community partners gathered to reaffirm their commitment to protecting children through the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) supporting the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) approach to child abuse investigations.
Coordinated by the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Oswego County, the MDT brings together professionals from law enforcement, child protective services, health care, mental health, victim advocacy, probation, the district attorney’s office, and other key human service agencies. Through this collaborative partnership, agencies work together to provide a coordinated, trauma-informed response to child abuse allegations while ensuring children and families receive the support and services they need.
“The strength of our Multi-Disciplinary Team lies in its commitment to collaboration,” said Tory DeCaire, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County. “By working together, we help reduce the emotional burden on children and non-offending caregivers, strengthen investigations and prosecution efforts, and promote positive outcomes for victims and their families.”
The annual MOU signing serves as a reminder of the community’s shared dedication to child safety, victim support, and accountability. Through the MDT model, agencies coordinate investigations, reduce the need for repetitive interviews, and connect children and families with critical medical, mental health, advocacy, and support services.
With offices in Fulton and Pulaski, the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County provides a safe, child-friendly environment where children can receive services in a setting designed to promote healing and reduce trauma. The CAC also works throughout the county to provide education, outreach, and prevention efforts aimed at protecting children and strengthening families.
The renewed agreement reflects the ongoing commitment of partner agencies to work together in the best interests of children and families across Oswego County.
