MEXICO – This year’s free annual concert, July 9, will start at 6 p.m. with Mexico’s own Emelee Harrington singing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
She has thrilled crowds at a multitude of venues in Central New York, including singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the NYS Fair.
She will be followed by the Dale Bloss on the bagpipes.
Mexico Brass, a yearly favorite, will once again entertain the crowd with favorite tunes.
This year’s feature group will be Soda Ash Six.
The renowned Soda Ash Six plays “traditional” New Orleans jazz.
It is completely improvisational – no written music is ever used.
The instrumentation, particularly the use of banjo and tuba instead of piano or guitar and string bass, is in keeping with the early street marching bands of New Orleans instead of the commercial variety of Dixieland often heard today.
The evening will end with the spectacular up-close fireworks by Young Explosives with music supplied by Wayne Green.
A new feature this year will be an arts and information area with some of the area’s most talented and creative people selling their wares.

Glass artist, Diane Chepko-Sade creates fused glass objects, including small ornaments, bowls, coasters and framed pictures.
Some of her unique creations are whimsical some abstract and some flower patterns.
Photographer, Janice Chipman, has images the can soften a room, motivate a desire to travel, and/or touch the heart.
Her work includes horses, water and landscapes.
She will have notecards, postcards and large and small photos.
Paula Marie Lehtonen has created handmade Goat Milk Soaps and lotions from her own five Nubian Dairy goats which she personally milks each day to make her products fresh.
She also makes natural salt and sugar scrubs, bath fizzies and deodorant.
Stop by “Friends of Spirit” table with information on an upcoming Holistic Health and Psychic Fair at Mexico Point Park on September 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be information on massage, reiki, reflexology and wellness products.
Food will be available from Garafolos and Barlows and Dollars for Scholars will be selling ice cream sandwiches.
Come early and enjoy the most beautiful spot on Lake Ontario.
There are two hiking trails and the beach will be open until 7 p.m.
Unique Casey’s Cottage will also be open.
Bring a blanket and flashlight.
Car pool if possible, parking is at premium.
