OSWEGO COUNTY – A strong induction class of 13 upstanding students were added to the MACS National Honor Society ranks during its annual traditional Rite of Induction ceremony, held at Mexico High School on Nov. 18.

The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who have excelled in the key areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character, often known as the organization’s “four pillars.”

Mexico Academy & Central Schools Superintendent Dr. Donna Runner and Mexico High School Principal Christopher Soluri were both on stage for the ceremony, where they shared their congratulations along with remarks to the gathered families, friends, mentors and community members in celebration of the occasion.

“It is always a pleasure to be a part of this annual induction ceremony where we honor some of our outstanding scholars at MACS,” said Runner, who has led the district since December 2020. “I am incredibly proud of each of them and confident that they will strive to do their best to support our community as they serve in the National Honor Society. Their dedication and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make.”

Los Inteligentes, which is the local MACS chapter’s name, welcomed the following members via induction: Toby Caroccio, Giana Cutuli, Olivia DeStevens, Timothy Gorman, Jessica Hill, Stefano Magro, Josie Metcalf, Angelina Nguyen-Truong, Kevin Perlet, Madalynn Tunis, Sam Warchol, Avery Willis and Hailey Workman.

The ceremony was hosted by MACS NHS Advisor Joseph Deckman, who is also a high school English teacher for the district.
