New York AFL-CIO Backs Barclay For Assembly

OSWEGO COUNTY – Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski) today announced that he has received the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO for re-election to the 120th Assembly District.

The New York State AFL-CIO is a federation of 3,000 affiliated public-sector, private-sector and building trades unions throughout the state.

“The health of our residents, our economy and our great state depend on the dedicated men and women who make up our public- and private-sector workforce,” Leader Barclay said. “The New York State AFL-CIO has always stood up for our labor force and the middle-class. I am honored to receive their support and look forward to collaborating with them during the critical stages of recovery and well into the future.”

In its endorsement letter, New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento said, “On behalf of 2.5 million union members, retirees and their families, it is my pleasure to inform you that the New York State AFL-CIO has endorsed your campaign for State Assembly. New York needs elected officials that understand that unions improve the lives of not only their members, but raise the standard of living of all working people. We are confident that you share that belief and will stand with us in the fight to strengthen and build new ladders to the middle-class and beyond.”

Barclay represents the 120th Assembly District, which includes the Oswego County towns of Albion, Amboy, Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hastings, Mexico, New Haven, Orwell, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown; the cities of Oswego and Fulton; the Onondaga County town of Lysander; and the Jefferson County town of Ellisburg. In January, he was elected unanimously by his colleagues as the Leader of the Assembly Minority Conference.

  1. This demonstrates the weakness of the American labor movement. We all know this endorsement is due to the fact that Barclay will win re-election, and the unions are trying to curry favor … but it’s just sad to see workers’ organizations endorsing someone who is so deeply opposed to the interests of working people, instead of doing the right thing and endorsing Gail Tosh.
