FULTON, NY – Thanks to the generous donations from caring area businesses, and the efforts of Oswego County Opportunities and their employees, a number of families will be enjoying a merrier holiday season.
In an effort to meet the increased demand to help families in need, OCO expanded its annual “Giving Tree†program and reached out to the community to help them provide families in need with food and gifts for the holiday season.
“Each year we have a “Giving Tree†at our administrative office to help the families that are staying in our homeless apartment program,†explained Jo-Lyn Phillips of OCO. “However, this year we had so many requests from our case managers to help families that are struggling that for the first time we needed to reach out to the community for additional resources to help the growing number of families that are finding themselves in very difficult situations that they have never faced before. It is heartwarming to see the response that we have received from businesses such as Burke’s Home Center in Oswego, who adopted a family and organizations such as Prince of Peace Church who are providing food for several families. We are fortunate to live in a community that cares about one another and really steps up to the plate to support those less fortunate and help make Christmas Day a little brighter.â€Â
