FULTON, NY – Oswego County Opportunities’ Developmentally Disabled Program opened the doors of its independent group residence in Minetto to welcome the honorary Head Pin for OCO’s upcoming Bowl-A-Fun, the Pink Guardian Angel.
One of seven homes located throughout Oswego County, the residence is staffed 24/7 and offers individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live as independently as possible with the help of caring staff members who provide training and assistance with the skills of daily living.
The Minetto residence is home to nine consumers who enjoy living independently.
In addition to working on individual goals to improve daily living skills that will increase their independence, they participate with household responsibilities, including grocery shopping and cooking and attend a variety of community events.
“We encourage the residents to be active in their community, in addition, through an arrangement with Tulip Travel, they also have the opportunity to take trips if they choose so. This is really their home, they are allowing us to come into their home and help them,” said independent residential alternatives program manger Christine Minor.
OCO’s Developmentally Disabled Program also administers six supportive apartments that are overseen by OCO and allow residents to care for their apartment and their daily needs as they work to improve the skills necessary to increase their independence as well as a Respite Program that offers relief for caregivers of developmentally disabled loved ones.
The Pink Guardian Angel is visiting various OCO sites throughout Oswego County as it reminds community members about OCO’s 10th annual Bowl-A-Fun and the announcement of the winner of the Golden Opportunities raffle that will take place on April 2 at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton.
OCO is a private, non-profit agency that has been supporting communities throughout Oswego County since 1966.
