FULTON, NY – In 2011, Oswego County Opportunities will celebrate its 45 anniversary.
As part of that celebration OCO has begun a new fundraising campaign, OCO Is On A Roll.
The first stage of the campaign, “Change for Change” is under way.
In preparation for OCO’s annual bowl-a-thon, staff members decorated plastic bowling pins that uniquely represented their respective departments.
At a recent reception for last year’s sponsors, attendees voted for their favorite bowling pin.
The top vote-getter was the Pink Guardian Angel Pin submitted by the Cancer Services Program Partnership.
Designed by program coordinator Carolyn Handvile and her daughter, Cheyanne, the pin was a creative salute to a past OCO employee.
“When we were deciding how to design our bowling pin we immediately thought of breast cancer awareness, and we thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to honor the memory of Nancy St. Onge, a former OCO employee, who when diagnosed with breast cancer, became a strong advocate for the CSPP, and the need for cancer screenings. After meeting with her daughter-in-law and her granddaughter we came up with the Guardian Angel theme for our bowling pin. We also put the word ‘Hope’ on the pin. We are sure that Nancy would have been proud of it,” explained Handville.
All of the pins created, which are also coin banks, have been distributed to several of last year’s bowl-a-thon sponsors where community members are able to donate their loose change throughout the holiday season.
“We are excited about our OCO Is On A Roll campaign and are looking forward to a successful Change for Change campaign. Change for Change not only helps to raise funds for our programs, it will also raise awareness of our annual bowl-a-thon, OCO On A Roll, Strike Back Against Poverty, which will be held April 2, 2011, at Lakeview Lanes in Fulton,” said executive director of OCO, Diane Cooper-Currier.
“Our OCO Is On A Roll campaign is aptly named as OCO is on a roll helping people, supporting communities and changing lives in Oswego County! OCO provides a wide array of services ranging from prenatal care, to counseling for teens to delivering meals to home-bound seniors. We serve more than 24,000 consumers each year and our more than 650 employees and 1,200 volunteers are devoted to helping lift people out of poverty. We truly appreciate the support we receive from community members and are happy to ensure them that their donations to OCO stay right here to help people in our community, added Cooper Currier.
