OSWEGO –  In recognition of Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Cancer Services of the North Country program, and the work it does to fight cancer in our communities, members of the Oswego Fire Department Firefighters IAFF Local #126 designed and sold commemorative Oswego Fire Department “Fight Cancer” T-shirts and apparel. The sale raised $1,025 in support of the program.

“I’m grateful to OCFD Firefighter / Paramedic Andy Rockwood, the Oswego City Fire Department and IAFF Local #126 for recognizing the services we offer and our efforts to raise awareness of the importance of regular cancer screenings” said Program Coordinator Carolyn Handville. “In the past few years the fire department sold pink T-shirts to raise awareness of breast cancer. This year they chose to bring attention to the importance of screenings for all forms of cancer.”

“We appreciate the opportunity to work with Carolyn and the Cancer Services Program of the North Country to help raise cancer awareness in our community,” said City of Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone. “We all have lost loved ones to cancer and know those who are currently battling different types of cancers. Our members are proud to wear these shirts during the month of October every year. This important partnership offers us a unique way to promote cancer awareness, early detection, and proper mitigation measures with our members and the general public.”
