Oswego County Administrators Participate in St. Baldrick’s Event

Childhood cancer kills more children than any other disease and one in five children diagnosed with cancer will not survive.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

Each year, volunteers agree to “get bald” to stand in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research.

Four high school principals in Oswego County participated in the recent St. Baldrick’s event held at SUNY Oswego, including Oswego County BOCES’ Director of Career and Technical Education Ronald Camp.

The principals’ group, known as the Oswego County Administrators included Camp, Brian Schmitt, Hannibal High School principal; Brian Buchanan, assistant principal at G. Ray Bodley High School; and Jamie Coppola, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown High School principal.

The four raised more than $1,500 for the local event, which netted over $55,000 with more money still coming in.

OCB Cosmetology students and instructors Ines Rovito and Rose Hartman volunteered to help at the event helping to shave the volunteers.

Since 2000, St. Baldrick’s has raised more than $123 million for childhood cancer research, awarding more than $21 million dollars in grants in 2011.
