OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning announces the winners of the annual Fair Housing Coloring Contest. Each year, Oswego County children aged 4 to 12 enter the contest to color their idea of what fair housing means to them.

“This is such a great way to get our kids involved in learning and promoting the concept of fair housing,” said Oswego County Legislator Mary Ellen Chesbro, District 10, chairwoman of the Legislature’s Economic Development and Planning Committee. “They are our future, so making this part of their understanding early in life means that they will be able to carry it forward and ensure a fair and just world for all!”

The contest is separated into two age groups. The winners of the 4- to 7-year-old age group are:

  • First place: Kaynan Bunyea
  • Second place: Aarnik Diddi
  • Third place: Rowen Parra
  • Fourth place: Elaina Dunsmoor
  • Fifth place: Charlotte Siefert

The winners of the 8- to 12-year-old age group are:

  • First place: Savanna Fortino
  • “Special Award”: Kenley Leonard
  • Third place: Adeline Walker
  • Fourth Place: Lilianna Patrick
  • Fifth Place: Cora Czymanski

Thanks to the generosity of local sponsors, contest winners received a variety of prizes. They included two family fun packs from Splash Indoor Water Park in Oswego, a cosmic bowling prize pack from Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego, two pairs of tickets to the Children’s Museum of Oswego, and Visa gift cards from Fulton Savings Bank and AmeriCU Credit Union.

All entries of this year’s contest were displayed at the Oswego County Legislative Office Building, where staff and visitors voted to select the winners. Over July 4th weekend, all coloring page entries will be on display in the county building, across from the cow barn, at this year’s Oswego County Fair.

The annual contest helps Oswego County mark the Fair Housing Act of 1968, enacted by President Lyndon B. Johnson. In the years since, the Oswego County Legislature has passed two local laws in support of equal housing opportunities for all county residents. The body also proclaimed April as Fair Housing Month to promote, support and enforce equal housing opportunities for all county residents.
