Oswego County BOCES Staff and Students Remember Patriot’s Day

Students in the Public Safety and Justice Program at Oswego County BOCES held a special ceremony on Patriot’s Day marking the 8th anniversary of the tragic events from September 11, 2001. Onlookers watched in silence as the cadets stood at attention and members of the program’s flag detail raised both the American Flag and the New York State Flag.

District Superintendent Dr. Joseph Camerino, assisted by Public Safety and Justice Instructor Jim Casamento, laid a commemorative wreath that was crafted by Margaret Rice and members her Floral Design and Greenhouse Technology program at the base of the flagpole to honor those who lost their lives on that day.

Dr. Camerino took a few moments to honor the fallen heroes and the families affected by the tragic events of September 11th and spoke about the meaning behind the word patriot. Defined as one who loves, defends, and supports their country, Dr. Camerino said, “I think it’s important to remember that all men and women, not just rescue personnel, were patriots on that September day.”
