OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego Players invite all interested persons to come to its monthly meeting, see a one-act play, have some refreshments and tour the theater facility.
The open meeting is set for 7 p.m. on April 14 in the Frances Marion Brown Theater of the Arts Center at Fort Ontario Park.
The Oswego Players is the longest, continuously running community theater in the country and has been presenting quality theater in Oswego since 1938.
Prior to moving into the Arts Center in 1963, plays were performed around Oswego, in Robinson Auditorium in the old high school, the Pontiac Hotel, Sheldon Hall and numerous other locations.
The Players have participated in the July Fourth celebrations since the 1970s, award several high school scholarships each year and supports other organizations and causes in the area.
“This is a great time for people to come out and see what community theater is all about,” said Rick Sivers, the current president. “We are always looking for new people who are interested in performing, building sets, working backstage and in every aspect of what makes live theater what it is.”
The April meeting will also show off the new seating that has been installed, replacing the seats installed in 1974.
Guests will also be able to view the new lighting system that was put into use last year.
The one-act comedy, “The Chair,” will be presented for the first time.
This year, the organization’s 77th, five major productions will be presented, including “The Odd Couple” which went up in February, “Of Mice and Men” set for late April and early May, two musicals, “Guys and Dolls” in July and “The Last Five Years” in August and finally, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” in December.
Season tickets are now available as well as group rates.
No reservations are necessary for the meeting, just come and share in the fun and satisfaction of being part of community theater in Oswego.
