Oswego Police Earn Reaccreditation

OSWEGO, NY – At the September 8 Oswego Common Council Meeting, Mayor Randolph F. Bateman congratulated Chief Michael J. Dehm Jr. and the Oswego City Police Department on their recent reaccreditation by the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council.

On September 4, members of the Oswego City Police Department were in Albany, where The New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council unanimously approved the department for reaccreditation.

The Oswego City Police Department was originally accredited in 2003 for a period of five years.

In June of 2008 assessors representing the Accreditation Council conducted a three-day site assessment the Oswego City Police Department.

During that time, the assessors conducted a thorough inspection of Oswego Police Department including a review of documentation, evaluation of policies, and interviews with various members of the department to ensure that the department met the 130 Accreditation Standards set by the Accreditation Council.

Upon completion of their review, the assessment team recommended to the Accreditation Council that the Oswego Police Department be fully reaccredited.

At the September 4 meeting, Chief Michael J. Dehm Jr. was presented with the certificate of reaccreditation, which is effective for a period of five years.

According to Chief Dehm, “Being accredited is more than a feather in the Department’s cap. It’s a symbol of the hard work and professional excellence demonstrated by each of our officers on a daily basis. Achieving reaccreditation was not an easy task and I thank all of the sworn and civilian personnel of the Oswego Police Department for their dedication.”

Also recognized at the Accreditation Council meeting was the Oswego City Police Department’s Accreditation Program Management Team of Captain Tory DeCaire and Sergeant Zachary Misztal, who were issued the John Kimball O’Neil Certificate of Achievement for their role in the department’s reaccreditation.
