Oswego Town- Saturday, November 19, the Oswego Town Historical Society will hold its final regular meeting of 2011 at 10 am at the Oswego Town Hall. This meeting will feature a hodge-podge of historical-related items in regard to the town’s heritage. This comes on the heels of a very memorable Veteran’s Day program, which honored the town’s veterans.
Saturday, Nov. 12, over 70 people congregated for the OTHS annual tribute to the town’s veterans. The Prior-Stock Post 1552 of Hannibal, Louis Gilbert Commander, provided the Color Guard presentation with a two vintage airplanes doing a mini-flyover a 10 am to begin the program.
Father John Hogan gave the invocation with Oswego Town Historical Society president George DeMass giving a short “look back” before the guest of honor Donald Buske taking the stage. Buske, a WWII veteran and a Bronze Star recipient gave a brief talk and on display was a large group of medals and memorabilia he had accumulated during his time of service.
All of the town’s veterans on hand were also introduced with a final prayer for all veterans given by Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Jeff Wallace. One of the highlights of the day was the recent reuniting of three WWII vets who had left for duty at approximately the same time, but over the years lost track of each other. Reunited were Donald Buske and his cousin Carol Buske who had not seen each other for over 60 years and Buske and George Baker who had been separated for over 50 years. The three were reunited thanks to the efforts of Wallace.
The public is invited to the last meeting of the group on Saturday, Nov. 19 for that historical miscellany and updates on the arrival of the Dr. Mary Walker statue.
