Rachel Clark Becomes National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

OSWEGO, NY – Oswego High School senior Rachel Clark has earned the status of National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

The member of the “Class of 2010” was recognized for her academic ability and is in consideration for a financial reward later this year.

There are 16,000 semifinalists nationwide and 15,000 advance to the final round where 8,200 will receive financial support for their next stop in their educational journey.

Rachel said, “I have applied to Columbia University and would like to focus on communications and political science.”

In regards to the National Merit Scholarship test she said modestly, “I think I probably got lucky and it just had questions I knew the answers to.”

Principal Patty Oughterson said, “I am extraordinarily pleased with Rachel and she is an outstanding representative of what the Oswego High School has to offer to the community and to the world.”

Rachel is also involved in other extracurricular activities.

She said, “I have been a member of the Marching Bucs for the past five years and play clarinet. I am also secretary for the National Honor Society and on the staff of the Buccaneer Bulletin.”

School counselor Lisa Roman noted, “I’ve enjoyed working with Rachel through her years here at the Oswego High School. She is a huge asset and I’ve enjoyed watching her every step of the way. She is just awesome.”
