OSWEGO, NY – Recently, Doris Allen, a former educator and dedicated library supporter, had an opportunity to read to youngsters Rose Huang and Katterina Ruotolo in the new Children’s Room at the Oswego Public Library.
The space they are seated in has been designated the “Apple Grove” and is used for both reading and craft space.
Mrs. Allen’s family contributed to the building restoration and this space will be named in honor of their mother, Doris.
The color scheme is red and green representing apples and trees.
The green rug and red bean bags were the idea of Mrs. Allen.
The library hopes to eventually have tree images created for the space to engage the imagination of children visiting the library.
“As we work through the levels of donors to this project we will be recognizing families such as the Allens for their generous support,” said Mercedes Niess, library trustee and campaign chair.
