The combination of softer, no-sting balls in two sizes and a “winning is for losers” emphasis on fun, make adult dodgeball an exciting and friendly activity to hit Oswego.

The league kicks off on October 18 at the Oswego YMCA, 265 W. First St.

Games will be two Wednesdays monthly. Six-player co-ed teams must have at least one female player per team and have six players, with two alternates allowed.

No experience is necessary and the rules are simple.

“The game is easy and the good times are endless. We’ll play the best/worst music of all time, and bad dancers often translate to great dodgeball players. Our biggest objective is just to have fun and to raise some money to support our community Y,” said Trish Levine, the YMCA’s Director of Health and Wellness.

The YMCA recently hosted a dodgeball tournament where teams of area businesses and friends met on the courts for an evening of some healthy, competitive fun.

YMCA Board of Directors member, Rich Burritt brought the idea to play the game as a way to get co-workers and friends together to support the Y cause.

“Every successful community has much to offer including banks, a hospital, schools and a YMCA,” Burritt said.

Burritt added that the Y is a great place for families and to meet new people. Noting the social aspect of dodgeball is just as important as the game itself, the league will encourage post- game hangout at a nearby establishment, allowing players to mingle and make new connections.

To sign up for the league visit oswegoymca.org or call the YMCA at (315) 342-6082.

The first games of the season will kick off on October 18

Registration must be made by October 16.
