Richardson Road Sign Dedicated

OSWEGO – Local officials recently participated in the dedication of a historic roadside marker at the former site of the Richardson Theatre.

The unveiling took place in front of 120 E. First St. in Oswego on Tuesday, May 23.

The William G. Pomeroy Foundation grant program awarded the marker to the Oswego County Historical Society and it was installed with the assistance of the city traffic department.

Built by Maxwell Richardson, entrepreneur and civic leader, the opulent theatre was once a premier showcase in the city of Oswego.

Between the grand opening in 1895 and demolition in 1945, the facility had hosted more than 5,360 performances by notable talents such as Ethel Barrymore, Lillian Russell, John Phillips Sousa and his band, and many other live shows.
