The town of Richland retained its title for the best-tasting drinking water in Oswego County and the village of Pulaski captured second place in an informal contest held June 9 at the Oswego Farmers’ Market.
74 people participated in the 26th annual Tap Water Taste Contest during Health and Wellness night at the Oswego Farmers’ Market.
The contest was conducted by the Environmental Division of the Oswego County Health Department.
Visitors were invited to taste samples of public drinking water and cast votes for their first and second choices.
First place went to the town of Richland with 64 points, followed by the village of Pulaski with 59 points; the village and town of Mexico water district, 54 points; and the city of Oswego came in fourth place with 45 points.
Richland’s water will be entered in a regional competition and regional finalists from around the state will compete at the New York State Fair for the state’s best-tasting drinking water.
The Tap Water Taste Contest has been held in New York State since 1986 and is organized statewide by the Water and Wastewater Education and Outreach Committee.
