FULTON – Kristin Earle, the Development Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, presented a program on Cystic Fibrosis at a recent Fulton Rotary Club meeting.
Club president Helen Hoefer thanked Earle for her presentation.
Earle informed the Rotarians that Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic lung disease that also affects the digestive system.
She said if you plug your nose and breathe through a straw you will get an idea of how it feels to have CF.
There are about 30,000 CF cases in the United States at any given time.
In the 1950s the life expectancy was five years old.
Today the life expectancy is in the 40s.
They have made great strides and hope to have a cure within the next 20 years.
She pointed out that much of the fund raising and personal assistance needed by CF families is through a volunteer network.
