OSWEGO, NY- During the month of January, Services to Aid Families, a program of Oswego County Opportunities, will be recognizing National Stalking Awareness Month.
SAF is the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Program for Oswego County and provides services to those who are victims of stalking or any other physical violence.
SAF is working in several ways to raise awareness about the dangers of stalking as well as the services offered to assist anyone who is a victim of stalking.
Please donate your used cell phones to assist victims of violence by giving them the added safety of having their own phone to call 911 in case of an emergency.
Bring your old cell phones to any of the following Oswego State games and receive a free admission.
Jan. 4 men’s hockey vs. Skidmore (7 p.m.)
Jan. 5 women’s and men’s basketball vs. St. Lawrence (6 p.m.)
Jan. 8 men’s hockey vs. Curry (7 p.m.)
In addition SAF is working with the following business to collect cell phones as well as other materials needed to make “stalking sacks,” which will be distributed within Oswego County.
These sacks will be distributed to individuals experiencing any safety issues including stalking.

Stalking is a crime under the laws of 50 states.
More than 3.4 million people over the age of 18 are stalked each year in the United States.
Weapons are used to harm or threaten victims in 1 out of 5 cases.
Services To Aid Families offers a 24-hour hotline (342-1600) for anyone who is in need of safety planning or advocacy.
