OSWEGO – The Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum will hold its first membership and fundraising buffet dinner theater event at The American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St., in Oswego, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
A second performance will take place Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m.
A cash bar will be available one-half hour prior to dinner.
The museum tells the story of nearly 1,000 refugees who survived Nazi reign during World War II and were allowed into the United States as “guests” of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
These people made their home at the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter, the only such shelter in this country, from August 1944 to February 1946.
The buffet dinner will be followed by a performance of the original play, “Dawn of Freedom.”
Written by local playwright Richard Sivers, the play recounts the story of the Fort Ontario refugees.
“It was an honor and privilege to bring the story of the refugees to life on stage last year and continues to be an honor once more with this production,” Sivers said.
Tickets for the event are $55 and include:
– Delicious buffet-style dinner, including entrees, side dishes and dessert bar
– Performance of the play, “Dawn of Freedom”
– A tax-deductible membership and donation to the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum
