Science fair showcases student work at Fairgrieve Elementary School

The Fairgrieve Elementary School cafeteria became a laboratory recently when students showcased a variety of projects during the annual science fair.

Hundreds of tri-fold poster boards and experiments were on display as students showed their parents some of the things they had learned throughout the school year.

For second and fourth graders, the science fair was a required part of the curriculum that called for them to follow the steps outlined in the Scientific Method.

They formulated hypotheses, conducted research and issued conclusions.

Projects covered topics such as the solar system, animal characteristics and traits, chemical reactions, magnetism and other science-related issues.

“The boys and girls worked so hard on these projects,” said Principal Jean Ciesla. “They should be very proud of their work.”

In addition to the student projects on display, several area health organizations and service providers distributed literature about health, nutrition and safety issues.

Students also received a free pair of sneakers for completing an obstacle course in the gymnasium.
