FULTON, NY – June 5 was Canalway Trail Celebration and National Trails Day.
Members of Scout Troop 715, who belong to the Canal Adopt-A-Trail organization and as members of Friends of Great Bear, participated along with other friends, pulling the invasive Garlic Mustard plant from trail sections at Great Bear Recreational Area.
Five 50-gallon bags were filled with the pulled plants, which will be disposed of.
Garlic Mustard is a non-native invasive plant that takes over areas and replaces the native plants that had been growing.
If found growing early enough, simple hand pulling can work ridding the plant from the area.
