FULTON, NY – Thanks to the support of Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Plant, the United Way’s Success By 6 Program has ordered a second printing of its popular publication, Children Do Come With Directions, A Guide for Parents.
The book, which provides first-time parents with valuable information that will help them be responsible and effective parents, was made possible thanks to a collaborative effort between the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Success By 6 Program and a number of community organizations and concerned businesses.
It is a comprehensive guide that is filled with must have information for first time parents including:
The different stages of the first five years of a child’s life.
The importance of learning activities in the home before the child enters pre-school or kindergarten.
The meaning behind certain actions a child does.
How a parent / caregivers actions reflect upon how the child grows up to act.
The United Way distributed thousands of copies of the book to schools and human services agencies throughout Oswego County in January of this year.
The book has since become so popular that the agency will soon be receiving a second printing to help meet the demand.
“The response we have received regarding Children Do Come With Directions, A Guide for Parents has been overwhelming. Those at the schools and agencies that use this book, as well as the parents, have praised it as a wonderful resource that truly provides first time parents with wealth of knowledge and practical advice that they can begin implementing immediately,†said executive director of the United Way, Melanie Trexler.
According to Trexler, the second printing was possible by a donation from Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Plant.
“Thanks to the financial support we received from Entergy, who also paid for the first printing of the book, we now able to provide even more parents with their own a copy of Children Do Come With Directions, A Guide for Parents,†she added.
Communications specialist Tammy Holden with Fitzpatrick said Entergy is pleased to be a part of this project and recognizes the book’s popularity.
“Entergy is happy to know that this project is having such an impact with the families in our community. We are proud to extend our existing partnership with a grant that will provide the additional copies of the books needed,†she said.
Designed to aid parents and caregivers, who may find themselves in situations with their child that they don’t know how to handle, the book offers helpful answers to their questions and guides them in the right direction so that they are able to raise a child ready and developed to enter school.

Pages to record immunizations, and what shots are needed when.

Literacy development tips.
