September is Library Card Signup Month

This September, the North Country Library System invites you to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month and discover how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities.

This year’s theme, “One Card, Endless Possibilities,” is a reminder that libraries are for everyone—no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you’re diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, brushing up on tech skills, or helping your child succeed in school, it all starts with a library card.

NCLS Youth Services and Outreach Consultant Katie St. Laurent says, “I can’t imagine not having a library card! Without spending a penny, I can dive into my curiosities, learn new skills, and soak up endless stories. Taking classes and buying books can be expensive! My library card allows me to explore my interests without investing a lot of money, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without access to such a wide range of information and tools.”

Getting a library card is free, easy, and empowering. For students, it’s a key to academic success. For adults, it’s a gateway to lifelong learning. For everyone, it’s a smart way to stay connected to your community.

“A library card opens up endless possibilities for learning and fun. With just one card, you can access educational tools, career resources, movies, audiobooks, and more!” says Jamie Kiemle, Community and Outreach Specialist at the Oswego Public Library.

To sign up for a library card or to learn more about library resources and programs, visit your library’s website or www.ncls.org.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-Up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

The North Country Library System is a support organization that delivers services to the 66 public libraries located in Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties. Through shared library services, cooperative purchasing, coordinated literacy campaigns, and training, NCLS maximizes sharing, creativity, and innovation to help improve the lives of North Country residents at home, at work, at school, and at play.
