Owners Bill Bundy and Paul McKinney brought along two of the herd of 16 alpacas they raise.

The two alpacas who visited, named “Autumn Rose” and “Rosie” mingled with residents who enjoyed getting to see the docile animals up close.

Bundy and McKinney also provided residents with an education on alpacas, which are native to South America, and what goes into raising them on their farm.

While most knew that alpacas are prized for their fleece, residents were surprised to hear that an alpaca can live to be 20 years old, and that females typically carry a baby for a year or more.

“Our folks are always interested in learning something new and seeing something different, and meeting an alpaca up close fits the bill,” said Activities Director Peggy LiVoti. “We really appreciate the time Bill and Paul took to bring their alpacas here to our residence-I think everyone was pleasantly surprised by how attractive these unique animals really are, and how pleasant they are to be around.”
