FULTON -The Strengthening Families Program will start again on March 3 at the Fulton Junior High.
Families with children ages 7-17, meet weekly through May 19 from 5:30 – 7 p.m., with a light supper provided at the beginning of each session.
Strong, loving families with well-behaved children don’t happen by chance, but are the result of specific attitudes and easy to learn skills best taught in classes that parents and youth attend together.
The Strengthening Families program is currently taught in 27 countries.
In this program the Strengthening Families Program DVD is facilitated by group leaders from Farnham Family Services and Oswego County Opportunities.
The group leaders’ help each family identify their strengths and build research-proven skills that increase communication and cooperation, reduce stress and create a happier home life.
This program was introduced through Fulton Community School this past fall.
Adult participants found different ways to address behaviors, learned to help their child understand family and house rules, and now work together with their child on problem solving.
Youth participants recognized that they were able to contribute positively to their family, learned how to cope with peer pressure and recognize behavior that does not lead to their goals.
The Fulton City School District data showed students that participated in the Strengthening Families Program improved attendance and decreased behavior referrals.
The Strengthening Families Program is free to Fulton School District families.
