The halls of Michael A. Maroun Elementary School were bustling with activity Sept. 24, as hundreds of parents, students, teachers and community members turned out for open house.
According to Assistant Principal Diane Galster, the event is always well-attended.
“The whole community shows up for this, which is really nice to see,” she said. “There are so many people who are involved in our children’s education.”
Open house gave parents an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher and discuss the expectations for the school year.
For fourth grader Michael Farrar and his mom, that opportunity presented nothing but good news, as Michael scored in the upper percentile in recent math testing.
“Michael is a star,” said school psychologist Nora Germain as she commended him for his hard work. “He did so well and he deserves to be recognized.”
Student recognition and academic achievement were the theme for the evening, with each classroom posting displays of student work.
In addition to the student projects that decorated the walls, there were dozens of community organizations, school clubs, athletic teams and other agencies in the spotlight. Groups such as the Parent-Faculty Organization, local churches and color guard had tables set up that highlighted their offerings.
