OSWEGO, NY – Oswego students and parents were encouraged to use education internet services on the Oswego City School District web page during Study Zone Blitz II.
Technology Integration Specialist Mary Beth Fierro said, “This is a weeklong effort to familiarize students, parents and teachers with the Study Zone that is available on the district web site.â€Â
She explained, “The Study Zone is a massive collection of educational materials that are aligned with the New York State standards in Math, English Language Arts and Social Studies. It is available free of charge to anyone who has internet access. All of the activities, lessons, practice pages, and interactive areas are available to support the instruction that takes place daily in our classrooms.â€Â
The area is available for students from kindergarten through their senior year, but Study Zone Blitz was for the K-6 students.
During the Blitz, Fierro noted, “We wanted parents to sit down with their child and look at the activities that have been pre-selected for them. Our elementary teachers selected different things for the families to do. A flyer has been sent home to every family and at the completion of the program the tear off sheet was completed and provided us with comments and suggestions that will be valuable in future endeavors.â€Â
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Curriculum Cathy Chamberlain was instrumental in the creation of this educational opportunity and Study Zone is widely used by students, parents and educators around the nation as millions of persons have connected and used this educational tool.
This exciting, interactive activity for Oswego’s elementary students along with parents and teachers was a huge success.
Elementary school students participated in the Study Blitz II and the winners in each building were presented coupons for free ice cream, courtesy of the Oswego City School District Lunch Program.
