It offers participants a well-rounded curriculum that combines learning skills with challenging activities, guest readers, and special presentations.  Special attention is also given to helping the children develop basic social skills such as how to sit and pay attention and how to properly conduct oneself in a school environment.

Holmes, who recently met with the Pre-K teachers, is excited about this year’s program.

“It was encouraging to see the level of enthusiasm that the teachers have for this program. They enjoy working with the children and are well aware of the program’s effectiveness. They truly appreciate the way the program prepares the children and understand the benefits that the children and their parents receive from it,” said Holmes.

In addition, this year’s summer program will feature AmeriCorps member, Ted Jackson as a special guest instructor who will assist in the classroom and coordinate a hands on activity where the children design cheerful cards for residents in area nursing homes.

Supported by the United Way, the Success By 6 program strives to increase the effectiveness of the community to meet the needs of children up to age six and their families. By sharing information and exploring new collaborations for service delivery, Success By 6 seeks to mobilize resources to ensure all children are physically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally able to learn when entering school.
