Summer Youth Shooting Sports Rifle Program Dates Announced

As previously announced, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is accepting registrations into its Summer Shooting Sports Program.

This program is open to all girls and boys ages 12 to 19 who are interested in shotgun and muzzleloading or rifle.

The programs will be conducted as a six-week course concluding with a field day.

The Shotgun and Muzzleloading program will be held on Wednesdays, beginning July 12 from 6-8 p.m.

The first three weeks will be held at Lock Stock and Barrel in Volney, and the final three weeks will be at Leatherstocking in New Haven.

The Rifle program will be Thursdays, also from 6-8 p.m., beginning August 24 at North Sportsmans Club, West Monroe.

Youth do not need to have previous experience or own firearms to participate in this hands-on learning experience.

The Oswego County 4-H Program and its instructors, certified through the New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Program, will provide all firearms and necessary equipment.

The instructors are volunteers who are chosen for their ability to teach and their skill at relating to youth.

A program fee of $30 will be charged to cover the cost of materials and eye and ear protection.

Partial scholarships are available through a donation from the Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.

Space is limited; therefore registration is necessary and parental or guardian permission is mandatory.

The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is valuable for helping youth develop self-confidence, personal discipline, responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem and sportsmanship.

The program also provides a positive experience for youth and promotes firearm safety.

Please note the Oswego County Shooting Sports program is not a hunter safety education program.
