OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego’s University Police Department is again teaming up with the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and participating in the “Buckle Up New York — Click It or Ticket” campaign. Extra patrols will be out looking for drivers and front-seat passengers who are not wearing their seat belts.
“Wearing your seatbelt costs you nothing,” said Lt. Kevin Velzy of Oswego’s University Police. “But not wearing one could cost you everything. So, don’t risk it with a ticket or worse, a life. Please remember to buckle up day and night.”
He said the campaign will be in high gear Nov. 16 to 29 and again May 1 to 18, while expanded enforcement is constant from Oct. 1 to April 1.
Motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death in the nation and the No. 1 cause of death for people between the ages of 2 and 34. Increasing seat belt and child safety seat use is the most effective way to reduce crash-related injuries and fatalities, police said.
