Writer Upset With McCain Campaign

I am outraged by the recent attack ads that John McCain’s campaign have put out against Senator Obama.  The one in which Obama was compared to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears was bad enough.  However, what really upsets me is the one in which the McCain camp is suggesting that Senator Obama is the Antichrist.

This is a serious accusation and should not be made light of.  When people complained about the Hilton/Spears ad, the McCain camp responded by saying it was their attempt at being humorous, and they are saying the same thing regarding this latest ad.  I am a Christian and am furious that the McCain campaign is behaving with such a callous disregard for people of my faith, not to mention their lack of decent behavior.  This ad is not at all funny!

Here is the text of a message I emailed to the McCain campaign via their website:

“….the reason I am writing is that I am very offended by recent ads that were put out by your campaign.  The first one that bothered me was the one in which Senator Obama was compared to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.  That was pretty low.

The most recent one, however, takes the cake and I am outraged!  This is the ad in which it is suggested that Senator Obama is the antichrist.

Just how low will you go to get elected?  What else are you going to say about your opponent in order to win?  Is your victory so important to you and are you so short of ideas as to how to improve this country that you have to resort to such behavior?

I believe that how a candidate runs his/her campaign is an indication as to how he/she will perform once in office.  Sir, you have no business running for the White House if this is how you will behave.  Shame on you!  The accusation you made (of Senator Obama being the antichrist) is quite serious.  In my opinion, no one should make such a statement without rock-solid proof.  I have yet to see such evidence.

If I was convinced that Senator Obama was the Antichrist, I would withdraw my support in a heartbeat.  But I am convinced that he is not.  What I am convinced of is that he is the best candidate for the office of President and he has my full support.

Yes, I am a Christian and yes, I drive around with an Obama bumper sticker on my vehicle.  I have an Obama sign on my front door and have been passing out campaign literature in Oswego County, which is predominantly white and Republican.  But you know what  – most of the people in my neck of the woods have given positive comments about Senator Obama’s candidacy and have not been nearly as positive about yours.

Irresponsible remarks such as these speaks as to how desperate the McCain campaign is getting.  The United States of America deserves better than this, which is why I am supporting our next President, Barack Obama!”

I am encouraging everyone who is reading this to give serious consideration to the behavior of John McCain.  Should we elect someone who resorts to such antics in order to win?  These ads speaks volumes as to how he will perform should he get elected.  We must not allow that to happen!
