Youth Bureau Announces Opportunities for Organizations to Receive NYS Funds

Not for profit organizations have until Oct. 30 to apply for grant funds through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

“New York State grant funds are allocated annually by the Youth Bureau Board of Directors to not-for-profit agencies,” said Youth Bureau Director Kathleen Fenlon. “There are two categories of funding, Youth Development Delinquency Prevention (YDDP) and Special Delinquency Prevention Program (SDPP).”

YDDP funds are intended to support services which provide opportunities for positive youth development and help youth attain the developmental assets needed to grow up to be competent, caring and healthy adults. Examples of services provided by YDDP include recreation and cultural, information and referral, character education, after school programs, physical health, youth advocacy, basic life support, social and emotional health, family support, and youth leadership and empowerment programs.

The Special Delinquency Prevention Program (SDPP) supports services aimed at keeping youth from becoming involved in the juvenile justice system or being chronically dependent on the human services system.
“The grant funds are intended to provide positive youth development programs for youth across Oswego County,” said Fenlon. “The Youth Bureau Board of Directors will carefully consider each proposal to ensure that a large cross-section of youth is served from different age groups and geographic areas in the county.”

New applicants must call the youth bureau at 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3451 and request an application package. New applicants are also encouraged to schedule an appointment with youth bureau staff prior to completing an application, in order to review the application requirements.

YDDP and SDPP funding is provided by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services, and programs supported by this funding cannot charge a fee for participation.
