‘Evening on Broadway’ To Be Staged in Fulton

Fulton Community Theatre and The Just Off-Broadway Players announce the revival of the popular Evening on Broadway series.

The show will feature great music from shows including Wicked, South Pacific, Sweet Charity, Chicago, My Fair Lady, Damn Yankees, Kismet, Mamma Mia, and many other Broadway smashes.

Originally conceived by Mary Finney, who directed the original production, the Evening on Broadway series evolved under the direction of Holly Otis into cabaret theatre with a small group of singers. Following Holly’s death, the series was continued by current director, Kathy DeGolyer. Past shows have included “A Lullaby to Broadway”, “The Many Aspects of Love”, “Magic to Do”, and “An Evening with Rodgers & Hammerstein”.

“One of the great things about the Evening on Broadway shows, is the opportunity for young performers as well as seasoned veterans to “strut their stuff” and sing some great music”, said DeGolyer.

Each of the productions focuses on a particular theme of Broadway music. The focus this time is on music from early Broadway classics through current blockbusters. “There is such a wealth of great songs written for Broadway”, said DeGolyer. “It was very difficult to select the music for this show”. Audiences will hear many favorite songs plus some less well-known pieces. “People will have a hard time not singing along with the cast”, promised DeGolyer.

The current cast of 15 men and women is the largest in the history of the series and features singers from Syracuse, Phoenix, Pennellville, Oswego and Fulton. Abel Searor is Music Director for the group.

Based on the popularity of past shows, the new production will have 4 performances spread over two weekends. Performance dates are Saturday, May 1, and Sunday, May 2, 2010. Saturday performances are at 7:00 PM. Sunday performances are at 2:00 PM. The musical revue is presented in a cabaret setting and seating for each performance is limited. General admission ticket prices are $12.00 for Adults and $10.00 for Seniors/Students. All performances are in Jubilee Hall of Holy Trinity Parish (former Immaculate Conception Church), 309 Buffalo Street, Fulton. Jubilee Hall is fully accessible to all audience members.
