‘Arcadia’ Merges Past, Present In Two-Time Tony Winner

OSWEGO, NY – The SUNY Oswego theater department’s spring play, “Arcadia,” merges past and present in a two-time Tony-award-winning script from acclaimed British playwright Tom Stoppard, entering its second and final weekend on the stage in Hewitt Union ballroom.

The piece by Stoppard — whose “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern” reached a large audience at Oswego previously — “is a play of wit, intellect, language, brio and … emotion,” wrote the New York Times’ Vincent Canby.

The boundaries of time slip to and fro as early-19th-century prodigy Thomasina Coverly (Anna Richardson, left) knows and intuits things about physics and mathematics well ahead of her time, while her less-perceptive counterpart in the present, Chloe Coverly (Morgan Rae Noone), argues that sex is the force disturbing the order of the universe.

The play curtains at 7:30 p.m. May 2, and ends its run with a 2 p.m. matinee on May 3.
