OSWEGO — The Lake Effect Cafe in SUNY Oswego’s Penfield Library will host the Oswego Jazz Project, the college’s faculty jazz quartet-in-residence, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
The concert will showcase music from the group’s two albums, “Oswego Jazz Project” (2007) and “And the Time Is Now” (2008). OJP consists of SUNY Oswego music faculty members Dr. Robert Auler on keyboards, Dr. Eric Schmitz on drums and Trevor Jorgensen on saxophone, with Oswego alumnus Max McKee on bass.
The group has performed at St. Peter’s Church in Manhattan, Oswego’s Harborfest, Eastman Community Music School in Rochester and the Mountain Home Winter Jazzfest in Wellsboro, Pa.
The band’s repertoire features a wide array of jazz styles — from originals to standards — as OJP strives to let audiences explore and appreciate the genre. Syracuse Post-Standard music columnist Mark Bialczak described OJP as “educators and musicians with a drive to help jazz thrive.”
The concert is free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be available through the Lake Effect Cafe. Parking is free in campus lots on evenings and weekends.
