SUNY OSWEGO – The Art Association of Oswego is pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibitions The Poetry of Place and Whispers of Tomorrow at the Art Association of Oswego with a reception on Saturday October 19th from 7 to 9 pm and running through November 17th. Poetry of Place features Madeline Corsaro and Bill DeMott who share a passion for landscape as a subject and a love for printmaking, especially the monotype process. Monotypes allow the artist to work freely on the printing plate and produce a single unique print.
Madeline Corsaro is an emerging artist of the Finger Lakes region. She received her BFA in printmaking from Nazareth College in 2018. When she isn’t painting or printmaking, she manages The Cheshire Union, a 1915 4-room schoolhouse turned art center in Canandaigua, NY. Madeline has exhibited at Main Street Arts Gallery in Clifton Springs, RIT, SUNY Fredonia and Alfred State University.
Bill DeMott is an artist and educator from Oswego, NY. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Printmaking and Drawing from SUNY Oswego and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He teaches at colleges and art venues across Central New York and for the past 25 years has been the exhibition coordinator at the Art Association of Oswego.
Whispers of Tomorrow features student artists from SUNY Oswego; Bailey Nolan with ink and markers, Bradley Knoer with photography, Erin McCollough with oil paintings, Laura Snyder with watercolor paintings, Laurel Burch with watercolor paintings and digital work, and Leena Captain with mixed media and oil paintings. This exhibition was proposed, organized, and curated by Tristin Perry, a student from SUNY Oswego. Tristin Perry interned at the Art Association during the summer of 2024, and through her time at the AAO, she has gathered insight into the world of professional exhibitions. This exhibition will celebrate the impact of SUNY Oswego’s art department on its students, showcasing the skills these students have cultivated with the support of the faculty at Oswego. Whispers of Tomorrow provides the community with an insight to the budding work of future artists attending SUNY Oswego, as well as the opportunity for Tristin to lead the orchestration of an exhibition in a professional space with the knowledge she gained through her time at the AAO.
AAO is a non-profit organization that consistently contributes to Oswego’s cultural landscape. Public events include but are not limited to free art exhibitions and low-cost community art classes. The gallery hours are Saturday 10- 1pm, Sunday 1-4pm and Wednesday 10-2pm. The Art Association of Oswego and the Frances Marion Brown Theater are located at 30 Barbara Donahue Drive, across from the parking lot of Fort Ontario.
