The West Baptist Church, West Third and Mohawk streets, Oswego, will launch the “Art in a Sacred Place†Concert Series. This series is partially funded by a New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Grant and is designed to provide high quality classical music to the public free of charge. The concert series will showcase the church’s recently rebuilt pipe organ as both a solo instrument and in combination with other instrumentalists and vocalists drawing on internationally renowned performers as well as local talent. The “Art in a Sacred Place†Concert Series will also allow the concert goers to experience the beauty of the church’s historic sanctuary including the beautiful stained glass windows.
The first concert in this series will be held on Sunday, May 2 at 5 p.m. and will feature organist Gail Archer. She holds a DMA degree in organ performance from the Manhattan School of Music and earned an artist diploma from the Boston Conservatory. An active recitalist in the United States and Europe, she was featured at the Dresden Musicfestspiel in May 2009. Ms. Archer lives in New York City and is college organist at Vassar College, a member of the organ and music history faculty at Manhattan School of Music and director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University. She serves as director of the Young Artist and Artist Organ Recitals at historic Central Synagogue.
