FULTON – First Ward Councilor Mark Woodworth was absent from the meeting, marking his third consecutive absence from council sessions.
One of the meeting’s most discussed items involved proposed changes to the city code regarding zoning district rules and regulations.
During discussion, Fire Chief Ketchum addressed the council and spoke in favor of the proposed updates, outlining the reasoning behind the changes and how they would affect city zoning regulations moving forward.
However, Councilor Mark Sherman voiced opposition to the measure and ultimately cast the lone vote against it. Sherman argued that the zoning changes could discourage small businesses from relocating to Fulton and create additional barriers for economic growth.
Mayor Rice pushed back against those concerns, stating that inaccurate information about the proposal had been circulating on social media. The mayor defended the changes and said the updates were being misrepresented to the public.
Despite Sherman’s objections, the council voted to approve the zoning district rule changes.
In other business, Councilor Clonch made motions to bring back employment contracts for both the city’s Department of Public Works Commissioner and Human Resources Director positions.
Both measures were approved by the council. Sherman voted against both employment contract resolutions, while Clonch abstained from voting on each measure after introducing them.
