CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Yesterday, December 15, Central Square Central School District Superintendent Thomas J. Colabufo announced all schools in the district will be switching to remote learning starting tomorrow with plans to return January 4.

The letter to the district community is as follows:

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases resulting in numerous quarantines of both staff and students, we have made the very difficult decision to switch to 100% remote instruction at all levels and all buildings effective this Thursday, December 17, 2020.

All instruction will be remote for all students in all buildings starting December 17 – December 23. Currently we are planning to resume in-person learning on Monday, January 4, 2021. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 cases and staff in quarantine over the holiday break to determine if we have sufficient staff to remain open for in-person learning at each building at that time.

All CiTi BOCES and out of District programs will continue to run as normal. Our regular food distribution will also continue as planned.

Students who have been reporting to either Central Square Middle School or PVM High School due to lack of internet will continue to report to those buildings as they normally have. The buses will pick these students up at their normal time. BASCAL and YMCA daycare will continue to operate at their current locations.

We have done our very best to provide quality in-person instruction for as long as possible. The recent increase in cases/quarantines has forced us to make this change at this time.

We have seen a significant increase in COVID-19 cases and quarantines since the Thanksgiving holiday and while we have not seen a spread within our schools, the number of quarantines have led to a staffing shortage. We are hoping that the number of cases and quarantines will lessen and allow us to properly staff our buildings for in-person learning after the holiday break.

We will continue to communicate updates over the vacation.

Sincerely,

Thomas J. Colabufo
