OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there has been one additional case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.

The cumulative reported number is 253 cases across the county and of those, 238 have recovered and four have died.

Today Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his approval of schools to reopen this fall. The state is reviewing plans for each of the states’ 749 school district and will notify those with completed plans of their status on Monday.

The Oswego County school districts plans can be found here:

“Based on our infection rate, New York State is in the best possible situation right now. If anybody can open schools, we can open schools. We do masks, we do social distancing, we’ve kept that infection rate down, and we can bring the same level of intelligence to the school reopening that we brought to the economic reopening,” Cuomo said in a press release.

Today’s statistics are below:

Oswego County: (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers.

  • Total # of active cases: 11 (yesterday: 12)
  • Total # of positive cases: 253 (yesterday: 252)
  • Total # of recoveries: 238 (yesterday: 236)
  • Total # of deaths: 4 (no change from yesterday)
  • Total # tests: 28,378 (yesterday: 28,110)
  • Total # of negative results: 28,279 (yesterday: 27,652)
  • Total # of people in mandatory isolation/quarantine: 85 (yesterday: 83)
  • Total # of positive antibody tests: 73 (as of Aug. 6)
  • Total # of negative antibody tests: 3,073 (as of Aug. 6)

The county has stopped releasing data for pending results, number of people in precautionary quarantine and total number completed/released from monitoring. Data will not be released on Saturdays or Sundays. Antibody test results are released once a week.

All known contacts of COVID-19 positive patients are being notified. In the event that a known case had public exposure when they were contagious, such as someone who worked in a restaurant, the county health department would alert citizens through the news media and social media.

Areas With Cases (alphabetical order):

COVID-19 has been identified in the cities of Fulton and Oswego and the towns of Amboy, Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hannibal, Hastings, Mexico, Minetto, New Haven, Orwell, Oswego, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown.

The county does not release the town/city of individual cases. If there has been a new case and a new area has not been added, that means it is in an area that has already been affected before. Once an area is added it is not removed from the list because the county does not say when a town/city no longer has a case.

  1. Things are so confusing to me…We are told we have to wear a mask to save the world or we don’t care about people. Just saw on channel 9 news there were all of these “potential exposures” in Oneida county yet when you look at it every time the person was wearing a mask. If cloth masks stop the spread how could one be exposed? Also why did a local restuarant have to be the one to inform the community there may have been an exposure there? Where is out Health department making similar announcements? Way NOT to protect the health of Oswego county. Our county is SO far behind compared to everyone else. It is so sad!!
