OSWEGO COUNTY – According to the Oswego County Health Department, as of 3 p.m., there have been six additional cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since yesterday.
The cumulative reported number is 703 cases across the county and of those, 659 have recovered and four have died.
SUNY Oswego reported one new case since yesterday.
“We’ve seen an increase in COVID-19 cases among adults across the county, many of which are not related to school or college activities,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “It is very important that everyone – not just students – maintain preventive practices such as hand-washing, face-masking and social distancing. These measures will also help to prevent infections such as seasonal influenza; something to remember as we enter flu season.”
Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup posted his weekly briefing to YouTube today.
In the video, he said the pandemic has impacted the county’s revenue and will therefore affect its budget, which is being formed by the legislature.
“Early on in the pandemic, the legislature established a COVID response account to fund and track county expenses necessary for COVID-19 response activities,” Weatherup said. “So far, the legislature has allocated $800,000 to pay for COVID response. Most of that money has been spent, and on Thursday, the legislature will vote to transfer another $200,000 to the account.”
He said expenses have included: personal protective equipment for county and local response agencies, COVID expenses incurred in Health, Public Information, Emergency Management, Sheriff, and other departments, personnel costs, technology for remote work, services in meetings, and quarantine/isolation expenses.
Weatherup said the legislature will also be voting to approve COVID-19 expense-related grants.
He also discussed a drive-thru flu vaccination clinic the county conducted this past Saturday in Scriba. As part of the state’s Emergency Preparedness grant requirements, the exercise was meant to prove the county’s ability to conduct a similar clinic when the COVID-19 vaccination becomes available. He said the clinic was targeted toward the at-risk population.
The Oswego County Health Department is accepting appointments for flu immunizations on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, available by appointment only at the Nick Sterio Public Health Clinic, 70 Bunner St., Oswego.

Oswego County: (as of 3 p.m.) Note, the total number of positive cases is cumulative since March and the number of recoveries and deaths are of those numbers. SUNY Oswego cases are included in the county numbers, however, the county tracks only those living in Oswego County. That means that students who chose to leave and go back to their home county and test positive there will be included on the college’s dashboard, but not the county’s. Their positive result would be reported to their home county, not here.
The seven-day rolling average for people in Oswego County testing positive is 1%.
